About your teacher:
Sarah Taylor
My name is Sarah Rose Taylor and I am a passionate francophile. I love the French language and the culture and am keen to share it with the youngest of learners so that they can have a very good foundation and love of learning.
At the age of 18 I left my native Great Britain and moved to France to live with a French family for a year for a Gap year between high school and University. While living there I took the equivalent of the High School diploma (Baccalauréat - Littéraire) and became fluent in French. This experience led me to stay in France and I completed my BA Hons degree at The University of London Institute in Paris and my Masters degree (Maitrise) in French Language teaching at Paris V University - La Sorbonne (Didactique du Français Langue Etrangère, Université de Paris V).
Looking for a new adventure, I decided to move to New York City to pursure an additional career interest in Vocal Performance. I earned a Masters degree and Artist Diploma in Classical Voice Performance. I have performed across the States and internationally and continue to perform and teach voice. While living in New York City, I met my future husband, also a classical musician and we performed and continue to perform together as a duo.
After receiving my greencard I was able to teach French again, something I had missed greatly as my visa restrictions only allowed me to work in Music. I taught high school French and also was the Personal Assistant to the Head of School of an International French High School on the Upper East Side.
My husband applied for a postion in Charleston, SC and in 2015 we moved down south. I was hired by the College of Charleston to teach French language courses and I taught until my youngest daughter was one year old. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching at the College and was proud that many of my students became French minors and found a love of the language for a subject that was initially a requirement that needed to be met for graduation.
Dedicating the early years to my daughter was very important and I was determined to raise her as a Francophone too. So, I speak French solely at home with her and now her younger brother too. I was excited to find the Music Lingua program because I would be able to share the love of the French language and marry it with my musical skills too ; so my children would not be the only ones benefitting from my skill. Many parents have always been impressed that I speak to my children in another language and have expressed their desire to do the same had they ever learned another language.
This program enables me to share my bilingualism with many children. My main goal is to instill a love of learning while exposing them to the beauty of the French language and culture.
I hope to start offering classes in the Fall (2020)depending upon the safety requirements associated with COVID-19.
